U3A Wynyard started in early 2015, following a public meeting in July 2014 to gauge local community interest. It is one of fourteen such groups in Tasmania (this number is increasing year by year), over 300 in Australia and many thousands around the world. We have now completed our fourteenth semester and have assembled a varied and exciting program of sessions for semester 1 2023, which starts on March 6th; we believe there should be something to interest everyone. So far we have offered classes in art, bird identification, creative writing, sustainable living, French, German and Italian, meditation and relaxation, cryptic crosswords, drama and theatre, various aspects of science, history of WWI, bird watching, gin appreciation and cider making and dozens more topics than there is space to mention here (click here for a list of all the classes we have offered so far).
Lacking a dedicated home of our own, we have used various venues over the years, but more recently, settled comfortably into the Wynyard Showground Reception Centre Hall and Poultry Clubrooms, next to each other on Jackson Street. The Showground Hall has been upgraded over recent months, with the addition of wall and ceiling insulation, heating and air conditioning, new toilets and curtains.
We can be contacted by email, the postal service, this website or face-to-face during our office sessions; click here to discover full details.
